Historic Tools of North Castle

Kitchen Tongs

This tool at Smith’s Tavern is a type of tongs supposedly used to take corn and other foods out of hot water.  It has two wooden handles connected at two places by coil springs, with two-prong forks at both ends. When the handles are squeezed together the forks come closer together to grab the hot food.
