Parker, White & Gannett was a Boston-based agricultural firm that specialized in seeds, plants and trees. The successor company, Parker Gannett, filed bankruptcy in 1883.
The Smith Tavern device was used to plant seeds and was adjustable so the seeds could be planted at a consistent depth.
