Historic Tools of North Castle

Potato Implement

This tool at Smith’s Tavern is a rotary hand corn and/or potato planter.  There is a wooden handle attached at the top of the device with a metal canister in the center.  The worker would step on the small “L” shaped plate at the bottom and springs would release seed potatoes (or corn) to be planted.  Research was unable to discover how exactly this device worked.
