Historic Tools of North Castle

Food Chopper/Mixer

This device at Smith’s Tavern appears to have been a multipurpose tool - it could be used to mix and chop food.  The device is mounted on a green-colored rectangular wood plank.  A wooden handle crank operates a series of gears and pulleys that simultaneously rotate the tin circular can at the end and raise and lower a chopping blade.   What types of food were processed by this device is unknown as research was unsuccessful in discovering information.

If anyone does know more about this particular device, please email the Historical Society with this much-needed information.
