Ice Cream Freezer

This device at Smith’s Tavern was a family-size ice cream freezer.  It consists of a metal canister with an “S” shaped crank with a wooden handle, which connected inside to a cast iron mixer (called a dasher) with vertical wooden arms.  “Made in USA” engraved on the lid and “Pat Jan 25, 1898”. The dasher was invented by Christian Aichele of Philadelphia, PA and assigned to the North Brothers Manufacturing Co. of Philadelphia (patent # 609,322).  No information was discovered on the patent of the whole device.
