This device at Smith’s Tavern was supposedly an apple and herb chopper. The device is a rectangular wooden plank to which is mounted a hinged blade with an attached wooden handle. A metal rectangular counting surface is embedded in the center of the plank. The top edge of the blade is concave and may have been another cutting surface.
If anyone does know more about this particular device, please email the Historical Society with this much-needed information.
