These tools at Smith’s Tavern were heavy metal ladles. The shorter version is made of cast iron while the other seems to be made of steel. Both feature forged double spouts that pour the melted lead into mold cavities. Workers would have to move diligently because lead cools and solidifies quickly. The shorter handle ladle provides the user with better agility and ease of pouring. The ladles would also be used skim impurities from the melting lead.
