Pin Mauls-Pestle Mallet (3)

Smith Tavern has two pin mauls and a pestle mallet.  Pin Mauls were used to hammer-in wooden pins or nails (also called trunnels) to connect beams or pinning a wedge.  A trunnel allowed wooden joints to move with atmospheric changes without being torn apart.

Pestle mallets were used to drive wedges.  Smith Tavern’s pestle mallet is a whitish wood.
