This tool at Smith’s Tavern is a wagon wheel traveler, which were used by blacksmiths and wheelwrights to measure the outside of the wooden wagon wheels to match the metal bands (tyre) to the wheel or to match a replacement wheel to the others. Used for wagons, buggies and especially conestoga wagons. It is made from steel. The wheel is 20 cm diameter; one side has measuring notations. The length of the handle is 13 cm.
